Information

Wrinkles begin to appear with age as we lose collagen, elastin, and muscle tone. The most noticeable area for wrinkles is of course in the face. For deep wrinkles in the face we utilize dermal fillers for instant gratification in various areas of the face such as the nasolabial folds (or parenthesis's) from the nose to the corners of the mouth, the marionette or puppet lines from the corners of the mouth down to the chin, and the glabellar lines (or elevens) between the eyes.

Some of the most popular dermal fillers on the market today are Juvederm®, Restylane®, and Perlane®. These fillers replace the older forms of collagen injections produced from animal products. These products had a very high incidence of allergic reactions and did not last as long as the new fillers. The new fillers have an extremely low incidence of allergic reactions, and last six months to one year in the skin and about three months in the lips.

Dermal fillers are colorless gels which are injected into areas of facial tissue where moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds occur. They temporarily add volume to the targeted facial areas and restore a smoother appearance to the face.

Juvederm®, Restylane®, and Perlane® all provide an instant satisfaction for our patients and have a huge margin of safety with only occasional post treatment bruising or swelling. The exception is the lips, which can swell to twice their normal size for several days after injection. All consist of a highly purified form of hyalouronic acid, which is a major component in the human body's collagen, so the body does not usually recognize them as a foreign substance. By using a topical numbing agent or dental block prior to treatment most patients tolerate the procedure very well.
