FAQ
What are the benefits of a low calorie diet?
Most clients appreciate taking a break from their current eating behaviors as well as the time and emotional energy spent planning and worrying about what they will be eating next. This energy instead can be focused on learning new food relationships and increasing physical activity.
How safe is the low calorie diet weight loss program?
Our program is designed to provide our clients with complete nutrition on a minimum of 900 calories per day. During the program, you will be monitored very closely by a physician. Labs will be drawn regularly to insure you are healthy and an EKG is done prior to starting the program. Even though the program is called a “Low calorie diet Program” the caloric and nutritional intake is very safe. Vitamins, minerals, fatty acids, fiber and electrolytes are supplemented to keep your body healthy.
What is the success rate of this program?
Low calorie diet patients generally lose forty to sixty pounds, while Healthy Solutions patients lose thirty to forty pounds on average. Long-term results can be achieved through the maintenance program.
Do you prescribe appetite suppressant medications?
Yes. Medications are prescribed only when appropriate. Phentermine has been used by millions of patients world wide over the past 30 years. There are minimal side effects such as a caffeine-like stimulation and/or dry mouth.
Do I qualify for appetite suppressants?
This is determined by the physician and is based on statutory guidelines for the dispensing of phentermine.
Do you have any natural alternatives to pharmaceuticals?
At Aesthetic Medicine, we carry a full line of high quality natural supplements including amino acids, botanical medicines, homeopathic medicines, as well as vitamins and minerals. These products can be very helpful as you move toward a better state of health.
How much water do I need to drink and why?
Adequate water is key to your success. There are many benefits, but for weight loss patients it is especially important to avoid dehydration and keep metabolism elevated. All of our weight loss patients need to drink as least two quarts of non-caloric decaffeinated fluids daily.
What is a Body Composition Analysis?
An electrical impedance device is used to determine body water, lean body mass and fat mass. These monthly measurements help us to follow your progress in reducing body fat while maintaining lean body mass and ensuring adequate water intake.
Is exercise important to the success of this program?
Yes. We focus on permanent lifestyle changes. It is important in the maintenance of muscle mass, metabolic rate and the burning of calories. In addition, exercise increases energy and has many other health benefits.
What lab tests are done and why?
The lab work is comprehensive. The initial lab tests include Expanded Chemistry, CBC, TSH, Free T3 and a Urinalysis. Any pre-existing medical conditions may be evaluated at this time. In addition, these tests check liver and kidney function, as well as risk factors like cholesterol and blood glucose. The urinalysis also checks kidney function. Thyroid tests are done to see if this may be a factor in weight and metabolic rate. Tests performed during the program will monitor potassium and sodium levels that may fluctuate during the reduced calorie diet.
Why do I need an EKG?
An EKG tells us if you have had damage to your heart. This is important to know before beginning any diet program.
Why is Aesthetic Medicine program better than the others?
Our program provides the expertise and supervision of a medical physician, naturopathic physician, registered dietitian and nursing staff. These highly trained experts are committed to helping you achieve your goal. Aesthetic Medicine incorporates the medical, nutritional and behavioral components necessary for ultimate success.
