Rosacea

NEW TREATMENTS: Treatments with the Intense Pulsed Light devices designed to eliminate the "broken blood vessels", the small red bumps and the smaller capillaries that cause flushing have now been used for several years. Our new IPL device is painless and is more effective than the older devices we used in the past. Our center has performed over 10,-000 of these treatments. We have now added a "second pass" 1064 laser to our protocol which has dramatically increased the efficacy of treatment sessions. Once the unslightly spider veins and small red bumps are removed, flair-ups are dramatically reduced. In addition the inflammatory process that causes scarring of the nose and cheeks is stopped.

Flushing is harder to completely eliminate but can be significantly reduced. The treatment itself helps to smooth the skin and repair some of the damage caused by Rosacea. Significant clearing takes 3-7 treatments but improvement is seen with each treatment. occasionally, more difficult cases can take 10-15 treatments to clear. The treatments currently used are relatively painless.

Total perfection is not always attainable. Once clearing has occurred Rosacea medications, such as metrogel and tetracycline can often be discontinued. Touch up treatment will need to be performed every 2-5 years to keep the Rosacea under control. Appointments are usually scheduled 2-4 weeks apart until the desired results are achieved. However for patients who travel from outside the area, two to three treatments may be administered during a one week stay under unusual circumstance, but in this situation you may experience more edema or re ness post treatment...

Nonetheless treatments that are spaced months or even years apart are still effective. Patients have travelled from all over the world to have treatments performed by Dr. Darm at Aesthetic Medicine. In particular those patients with flushing who have been resistant to treatments elsewhere have had success with Dr. Darm's Protocols.
